Picnic spots on Fuerteventura

Why not pack up a hamper and head off for the day for a picnic? Load up your freezer box with some cooked meat, freshly baked rolls and drinks ad search out that perfect Fuerteventura picnic spot.

The beach is the obvious place to have a picnic – and some of Fuerteventura’s beaches are a little off the normal tourist routes so a picnic is the obvious thing to take with you for a day’s sunbathing.

But why not try looking for some other beauty spots for your picnic? There are no designated picnic areas on Fuerteventura and the sun can be pretty fierce. Remember to pack a parasol with your picnic hamper and take plenty of water.

Picnic spot Ajuy

Park either on the beach or in the turning circle just outside the village then follow the crowds up the cliff top walk. Eventually, you will come to the mirador – a viewing point made out of wood.

However, if you head back along the path and veer left to the clifftops above, you will leave the crowds behind and a small path takes you along the upper cliffs, through a fence with a gate in it and from here you can look back at the mirador and see more caves carved into the cliffs. Continue on and the Pena Horadada will come into site – a huge archway of rock jutting into the sea.
 

Picnic spot Faro de Toston (lighthouse)

From the lighthouse a short drive outside El Cotillo, a ten minute walk will take you to delightful turquoise bays or sand dunes.

Picnic spot Puerto de la Torre, Caleta de Fuste
 

From Las Salinas just a couple of kilometres south of Caleta de Fuste, walk south along a track to Puerto de la Torre where a few minutes inland from the beach is a grove of palms.

Picnic spot Ajuy

Taking the Ajuy road out of Pajara, after 9 kms pull on to a track on a bend in the road. Park in the barranco - dry river bed - and heading uphill you will find a palm-lined valley. A little way into this there is a stream with a small bridge over.

Picnic spot Isle of Lobos

A superb place for a picnic. After catching the ferry from Corralejo, heading left from the jetty there is a path taking you to the sand dunes. Or turn right to the Playa de la Calera.

Picnic spot Playa de Cofete

Take the first turn off left outside Cofete to the beaches of Barlovento de Jandia and picnic at any place on the beach. Remember the sea can be dangerous here.
