Compared with the UK, car hire on Fuerteventura is very cheap. And to really get into the heart of Fuerteventura and find those deserted beaches, isolated little comes and small fishing villages, it is worthwhile hiring a car if only for a few days. Driving on Fuerteventura is a delight compared with the UK. The roads are mostly long and straight and almost deserted in placed. The only place you are likely to find anything resembling a traffic jam is in the capital, Puerto del Rosario.
If you want to book your car in advance and have it waiting for you at Fuerteventura Airport, click on one of the adverts on the left or fill in the form above. Some hire companies ask you to meet them at the rendezvous point. This is n the departure hall, not the arrivals hall, so you simply have to walk through. Anyone who is over the age of 21 and has had a driving licence for more than three years can rent a car on presenting their driving licence and passport. Car hire rates generally fall the longer you rent the car for. The national speed limit is 90km per hour although taxi drivers may well shoot past you. In towns it is generally 40km per hour. The wearing of seat belts is compulsory although this is often overlooked when driving around towns. You won't be covered by car insurance if you drive off road - although many holidaymakers take the chance - or with some companies if you travel over to Lanzarote. Only the person who signs the car hire form is insured to drive. If you want to have more than one driver, make sure each signs the form. It is not normally more expensive and it could save you a heavy fine. Drinking and driving is strictly
prohibited and the fines are heavy.
