Fuerteventura beaches - Cofete beach |
Difficult to
reach but the beach runs for about 5kms so there is plenty of room if you
wish to be alone. The beach is white and sandy and there is plenty of room for naturists. But be warned, this wild beach is in one of the most isolated places in Fuerteventura. The Cofete sea is rough and strong, much to the delight of windsurfers, and with no kiosks or hotels, it is important to take food and water with you. To visit this deserted corner, where sand dunes try to creep up the cliffs and where the furious waves still wash ashore remnants of shipwrecks, is an experience. At the southern tip of this wild beach lies Cofete village – isolated and used mostly as a weekend retreat. The beaches of Cofete are in the natural park of Jandia. In this area is one of the most important geological sites on the island. |
You can get from Cofete to the Faro de Jandia (lighthouse) right on the southern tip which gets some of its energy from solar powers. Bathing is not recommended because of he strong tides. The route there takes you through the very pretty Punta Pesebre, the Playa de los Ojos (Eyes beach), which is difficult to access, and the fishing port of Puerto de la Cruz before taking you on to the lovely Playa de las Pilas.
