| Spending a
day at La Lajita is not just a trip to the zoo. The whole centre is one of
the most exotic places on the island. Oasis Park first opened its doors in 1985 exhibiting local plants. Now it encompasses a zoo, botanical garden, a massive garden centre, a camel safari base and a pleasant restaurant. Today it houses plants and animals from all over the world - a far cry from its early days. The first animals were chimpanzees
which were followed by crocodiles and exotic birds. Today's residents
include giraffes,
Shows by crocodiles, sea lions and parrots keep the adults as well as the children amused.
The Oasis Park garden centre is unlike
any garden centre you have seen in the United Kingdom. It is truly a

Here
you can buy almost anything from a pot of herbs to an indoor plant to a
fully grown palm tree - there is a huge variety of stock.Plants are both grown on-site and bought in. Growing on site means prices are kept down.
There is also an impressive pottery section with pots and containers coming in all shapes and sizes - nice gifts to take home. The trolleys have recently been
upgraded and it is possible to get one of the staff to show you around the
garden centre in The garden centre is open 9am-6pm 365 days of the year. Note that five per cent purchase tax is added to all prices at the till. Oasis Park camel reserve The camel reserve is one of the most
important in Europe with more than 300 examples of the animal. The camel is the traditional method of transport on the island and which farmers used widely for toiling the hard earth. Camel safaris are available from the park.
