| This lovely walk
takes you through a picturesque valley dotted with palm trees where there is
a reservoir and ends at an isolated little chapel clinging to a rock face. At Vega de Rio Palmas, take the path on the left after the stream bed where palms trees cover the valley floor and after about a minute, go into the stream bed for about ten minutes until you come to a cluster of tamarisk. Come out of the stream bed on to a wide path that climbs to the right and as soon as you see a narrow path just below which goes by the reservoir, drop on to it. The valley floor splits into two, the left heading back into the hills and the right to the reservoir.
|
It develops into a
narrow ravine surrounded by hills and after about ten minutes you are on the
reservoir wall. Follow the stone path that has been built into the sides of the barranco taking care as parts have crumbled away. Depending on the time of year, there may be puddles which can be quite deep. A few minutes along this path you will spot the tiny white chapel of Nuestra Senora de la Pena sitting on a rocky outcrop above the stream bed at the end of a path which clings to the face of the rock. Interesting oddments have been left at this chapel and the visitors book makes for fascinating reading.
