| Fuerteventura is a
Mecca for surfers and boogyboarders. There are so many ideal surfing spots,
so many surf schools that it would be impossible to list them all. There are perfect breaks to suit all levels of ability and if you are a complete novice, surf schools abound around the island. Uncrowded beaches, excellent reefs and powerful waves all make the perfect cocktail especially when the large Atlantic swells hit the island during the autumn and winter months. The north west coast around El Cotillo is very popular with surfers in the autumn when the Atlantic swells regularly hit the coast and occasionally, engulf the north east and south coasts as well. .When this happens, the height of the waves fall and the experts head further east.
