Lajares lies a short drive from the main tourist town in the north,
Corralejo and is traditionally famous for its lace making. The main attraction for visitors to Lajares is the local lace shop Artisania Lajares where you can watch local women at work making lace and doing embroidery. The shop is a popular stopping off point for coach trips offering refreshments and the chance to buy local handicrafts. It is open 9am-7pm weekdays and until 1pm on Saturdays. Lajares is also famous for its two windmills, the Molino and its female counterpart Molina which is the newer one and was still being used about 20 years ago. The Molina is a wooden construction that sits on the rooftop of a house and quite often has a room either side.

The
Molino is a sturdier building which operate by pushing the arms which rotate
the cap. Years ago people used to come from miles to Lajares to have their
roasted grains ground to make
gofio.Lajares also boasts a "lucha canaria" arena - Canarian wrestling which is popular throughout the island - and a football stadium which was built in 1990. There are some interesting shops, bars and restaurants in the village which is well worth visiting. For the more energetic it is possible to walk to Lajares from Corralejo through a chain of volcanoes. For the less energetic, buses run to Lajares from Corralejo and Puerto del Rosario.
