Fuerteventura golf

In Caleta de Fuste you will find Fuerteventura's first and only PGA championship rated golf course.

Opened at the end of April 2002. it earned it's title when it staged the 2004 Spanish Canaries Open to much acclaim.

Covering 1,500,000sq. metres, it has some superb views to the Atlantic ocean with lakes and palm trees. The fairways, tees and rough are all planted with two varieties of Bermuda with agrostis seaside at the fringes and at the grens, agrostis Penn A4.

Although there are 67 bunkers, none are too deep.

It lies a few minutes from the sea and golden sandy Golf on Fuerteventurabeach at Caleta de Fuste. Designed by Juan Catarimeau it has been thoughtfully designed with the prevailing north, north westerly wind in mind.

Because of this, there are large greens averaging more than 614sq. metres. From the tee, there are fairways more than 50 metres wide.

He has tried to design a course where the number of difficult holes equal the number of easier ones where shots can be recovered.

The 18 hole golf course is a par 70 of 6049 meters from the men's championship tees with two loops of nine holes starting and finishing at the clubhouse.

There are three large lakes connected by a stream and all come into play. Buggy paths connect all the holes.

Three of the par threes are played into a head wind, there are two par 5s and the rest are par 4.fuerteventura golf course The course is mostly flat except for the 17th and 18th.

Green fees are 48 Euros for 18 holes and 30 Euros for nine. There is a book of ten discount tickets available priced 390 Euros for 18 holes and 210 Euros for nine holes.

Trolley hire is 3 Euros and a buggy costs 30 Euros for 18 holes.

Clubs can be hired. A set of Frazers are 15 Euros and Calloways 30 Euros. A deposit is required for the Calloways usually secured against credit card.

The practice facilities include a 50 bay driving range, a large putting green and a second green for chipping and bunker shots. A bucket of 40 balls costs 3 Euros.

Dress sense is not strict but not allowed are jeans, tee shirts or no shirt. A collared shirt, polo shirt and tailored shorts or trousers are acceptable.

Spiked shoes are not permitted - preferable are soft plastic spikes or, as a last resort, trainers

The clubhouse is actually part of a five star hotel. It  includes a large pro-shop, changing rooms with lockers available, a storage area and various bars, cafeterias and restaurants, sauna and swimming pool. There is an outside terrace and garden area.

A second golf course is being built adjacent. Courses are also planned in Pajara, Jandia, El Cotillo and Corralejo.
