Gastronomy

If you are into gastronomy, three restaurants on Fuerteventura have been awarded the coveted Plato de Oro - Spain's top food honour.

The prestigious 2006 awards saw 18 restaurants on Fuerteventura short listed for the awards. The three winners were:

La Fuente in Caleta de Fuste where chef Juan Luna Perez prides himself on care and attention to detail.

El Jardin in Triquivijate has been open for two years and is run by Javier from Tenerife and Lisette from Holland. The restaurant is a venture they fell into by accident when Javier started cooking for friends as a hobby using recipes from his grandmother and mother. His food became so popular that he changed part of their house into the restaurant.

El Jardin uses local ingredients including salt from Las Salinas and tomatoes from Tuineje. It is open from 8.30pm Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday lunchtimes.

The Marabu at Esquinzo in the south of Fuerteventura offers on a daily basis fresh fish and meat, national and international dishes and a range of wines from all denominations in Spain.
