| If you are staying
in Caleta de Fuste
or going on a mountain trip to Betancuria, don't forget to take some nuts to
feed the chipmunks. These little creatures live in the rocks along the shoreline north of Caleta de Fuste and love pistachio nuts - there is no need to even shell them. They will tamely come up and feed from your hand. The chipmunks also live on the hill overlooking Caleta which is known as Chipmunk Mountain but there's no need to climb it unless you are feeling energetic.
|
They
also live in the rocky crags at various viewing points on the road to
Betancuria. If
you go up there, don't forget to take some water for the busy chipmunks -
and bread for the birds that follow them everywhere.
