Fuerteventura beaches - Sotavento beach

Sotavento beach must be one of the most amazing beaches in the world ...

Beautifully colourful and oozing peace and quiet, it has the island's largest concentration of accommodation and tourists facilities on its door step.

Probably one of the most photographed beaches - it is seen on millions of postcards and its name goes hand in hand with Fuerteventura.

Almost 7kms of coastline have been made into a paradise for beach lovers, everyone from anglers to naturists and water sports fans.

Golden white shores which vary from pretty coves backed by low cliffs at the Costa Calma end to huge

dunes south of the Hotel Gorriones and vast desert-like areas.

Whatever your degree of skill, the area is ideal for windsurfers and kite surfers. Beginners like the higher tides as they fill the lagoon which is protected by a sand bar creating waist deep, almost flat waters.
For the more advanced, the seaward side of the sand bar produces challenging waves for surfing and jumping.

The P.W.A. World windsurfing speed and slalom event is held here every August attracting the best of the windsurfing world
