| The most
spectacular beaches on Fuerteventura are to be found on the Jandia
Peninsula. Stretching from just part Costa Calma all the way down to Morro Jable, the landscape s one of never ending golden beaches, sand dunes and crystal blue sea. The coastline is constantly changing, new walls of sand being created running parallel to the coast with little hollows and lagoons of water filling in where the sand has moved on. The peninsula has everything with which Fuerteventura is associated - salt marches, dunes, lagoons, clear sea, ravines, rocky plains, shrubland ... Water sports lovers and naturists alike adore this area. The north of this area is known as the Barlovento. Here, the beaches can be dangerous for bathing because of the strong under currents. To the south running for almost 20kms lies vast, white beaches – sometimes over a kilometre wide. The whole area is covered with large and small

coves and the pick of the beaches can be found at Mattoral, Juan Gomez, Sotavento, Butihondo and Las Pilas. Trade winds blowing from the north west make the area a windsurfing dream – the PWA world windsurfing speed and slalom event draws the best windsurfers every year and the world kite surfing championship was held in 2005. |
