||||
| These golden
sandy beaches just north of Corralejo are famous for their sand dunes. They
are as varied as they are long and stretch almost as far south as Guisguey. The dunes white dunes roll towards the Antigua mountains on one side and have views of Lanzarote and the Isle of Lobos thrown in as well. Flag beach just outside Corralejo town has plenty of restaurants, bars and toilets and also life guards. It is one of the best places for windsurfing, kite surfing and kiting and there are sun beds. Glass Beach is suited for the more experienced - drop beach for the less energetic. Naturists tend to use the area immediately either side of the two large hotels. The beach is dotted with small, circular stone shelters to give some privacy and shield from the wind. Heading further south still and you come across the ever-changing dunes. The area resembles the middle of the Sahara desert and has been the background in many films and TV commercials. A flag system operates to show the safest areas to bathe. If you are going there by car, you can park virtually anywhere by the side of the road. Getting there from Caleta, take the number 3 Caleta-Puerto bus which

The two big Riu hotels on the beach a few miles out of town dominate the best part of the beach. A taxi there costs about 6 Euros. Recently, the President of Fuerteventura said he wanted to pull them down to return the dunes back to nature. |
